Alex Ikejiani

Biography
Alex Ikejiani is Nova Scotia’s Deputy Attorney General and Deputy Minister of Justice. A proud Nova Scotian, he brings extensive senior legal and public service experience to the province, with a career focused on environmental law, regulatory enforcement and complex government decision-making.
Prior to joining the Nova Scotia Department of Justice, Alex worked with the Department of Justice Canada in Ottawa, where his practice concentrated on environmental law, regulatory prosecutions, and oceans and resource management. He worked closely with federal departments and agencies to ensure compliance with environmental legislation and served as lead counsel on major regulatory initiatives. Notably, he led the drafting of multiple federal regulations designating Marine Protected Areas under the Oceans Act, helping to protect and conserve significant areas of Canada’s oceans. He also served as lead counsel on major cases involving federal environmental regulatory offences.
Alex is recognized as a Certified Specialist in Environmental Law by the Law Society of Ontario. He has been a sessional lecturer at the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Law since 2003 and has also lectured with the Institute of the Environment in the Faculty of Science. He was appointed Adjunct Professor of Environmental Law and Policy in the Civil Law Faculty. He is also a Senior Fellow at the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law for Board of Directors Education, supporting executive-level governance training.
In addition to his professional practice, Alex serves on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport and on the Board of Directors of Learning for a Sustainable Future, a national non-profit focused on advancing sustainability education across Canada.
Alex is a practicing member of the Law Society of Ontario and a practicing member of the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society.
